The New Astra GTC

Exterior design

The Vauxhall Astra GTC takes the sporting identity of the Vauxhall Astra to a new level. And its dynamic coupé styling is immediately appealing.

From the front the signature chrome bar, with aerodynamically fine-tuned front bumper and deep reaching trapezoid grille, creates a forceful presence. It’s underlined by the signature daytime running lights and the smoothly profiled wrap-around headlight clusters.

Flared wheel arches over 18-inch wheels (standard, or choose the striking 19-inch or 20-inch alternatives), and a smoothly profiled sill-moulding form a solid basis for the side styling, while highlighting the car’s ‘muscular’ appearance. The side windows with chrome surrounding signal high quality and attention to detail.

From the back the strong shoulder line, which forms the upper line of the rear light clusters, gives a strong, dynamic impression, while signature light elements, such as the LED tail lamps make the Vauxhall Astra GTC unmissable at night.

Interior design

The energy and sporting flair of the exterior continues inside. Choose from two trim levels: Sport and SRi. Both present high quality ambience, together with a feeling of roominess.

The Astra GTC Sport features a black cloth interior, or choose from black or red in the SRi. A soft Nappa leather interior with silver stitching and piping is available with the ergonomic sports seat.

While the Vauxhall Astra GTC is a true-blooded sports coupé, it is designed for real everyday use. Easy Entry makes getting in and out of the rear seats simple. And as well as the excellent driver and passenger storage features already familiar from the Astra 5-door, for further convenience 60/40-split rear seats and load-through are standard.

A perfect platform

Superb ride comfort, driving dynamics, and steering response, with reduced noise and vibrations are all benefits of the Astra GTC chassis. The high-torsion stiffness of the Astra GTC body ensures optimum preconditions. The advanced suspension provides excellent handling precision, ride comfort and extremely low levels of noise and vibration.

The broad stance of the car ensures high stability in curves, and the long wheelbase a smooth ride even on bumpy roads.

HiPerStrut front suspension

Using a powerful engine in conjunction with conventional McPherson strut front-wheel-drive systems causes problems, the most obvious being torque steer and radical camber change. The HiPerStrut front suspension of the Astra GTC overcomes these and other disadvantages.

By decoupling the steering from the wheel motion geometry, torque steer is reduced to almost zero and traction under heavy acceleration is maximised, resulting in significantly overall ride and handling.

Watt’s link rear suspension

The rear suspension of the Astra GTC is a compound crank axle with Watt’s linkage. While the principle of Watt’s linkage has been known for over 200 years, more recently it has been used mostly in racing cars.

A steel cross-member just behind the wheel centre-line carries the two struts of the linkage. These are pivoted in the middle and the ends attached to the lower wheel carriers. This compact system effectively prevents any lateral movement of the axle, providing more stability, a smoother ride and improved handling.

The FlexRide electronic chassis control system reacts instantly to changing conditions and continuously adapts to your driving style. Continuous damping control adjusts the damper settings in real time. Four-channel anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brake-force distribution, traction control, and ESP Plus all work together to provide fantastic driving dynamics.

With the FlexRide switches, you can change the entire driving dynamics at the touch of a button. Choose between the three operating modes ‘Sport’, ‘Tour’ and ‘Normal’ – all of them optimised for different driving scenarios from taut sporting excitement to relaxed long-distance cruising with uncompromised safety and stability.
