Hargreaves Garages is a family business with Brian Hargreaves as Chairman, Noreen Hargreaves and Stephen Hargreaves as Directors and Christopher Hargreaves as General Manager at Kendal.
Bare Motor Company Limited was founded in 1937. Bare is a small village within the Morecambe catchment area and in 1952 Vauxhall awarded the franchise to retail and repair their products.
This area of responsibility (AOR) consists of a 45-mile radius from Morecambe, south to Preston and north to Carnforth on the Lancashire/Cumbria border.
In 1978 Brian and Noreen Hargreaves bought and ran the business until 1989, when they purchased a former factory building and an adjacent plot of land on White Lund Industrial Estate. The existing building was converted to the Aftersales department and a purpose built fourteen vehicle showroom was duly completed. The franchise consists of vehicle sales, cars and light commercials, servicing and Masterfit, parts and accessories and an accident repair centre.
In 1979 Stephen Hargreaves joined the business as an apprentice mechanic. After serving his apprenticeship, Stephen worked in each department to gain experience of the business. In 1996 Hargreaves Garages bought the Vauxhall dealership in Kendal Cumbria, formally Atkinson Garage. This consists of new and used vehicle sales, service and Masterfit, parts and accessories and an accident repair centre. Stephen headed up the newly purchased Kendal branch as Retail Operator. In 2009 he returned to Morecambe taking up more responsibility and operates from there over seeing Kendal along with his parents.
Christopher Hargreaves joined the company in 1995, starting in the sales department as trainee sales consultant and moving within the after sales department and accounts to gain a thorough understanding of the business. Christopher has a wide range of experience in both Vauxhall and Chevrolet and was tasked to launch and integrate the Chevrolet brand within the organisation. Christopher has recently been appointed General Manager at Kendal to oversee the business on a day to day basis.
In 2007 the Morecambe branch added the Chevrolet franchise with in our portfolio at Morecambe.
